Repo mailed me a beeper, how does it work?
mattm asked:
I just found out that my bank asked a repo to find my car. Forget about me not paying, I checked my pobox and found a beeper mailed to me it said it was a beeper to give me up 2 the min sports info. It looked suspicious, aside from the fact I didn’t order one, because there was no writing on the beeper like model or brand.
I never turned it on but when I got home I noticed it was on so I popped out the battery and drove someplace else. I popped in the battery and left the beeper in the mall parking garage about 20 min away.
I couldn’t find anything on this device specifically so I’m asking here. Do you think that they can track where’s its been or just where it currently is? I know there are limits for some gps tracking devices and I don’t know which one this was but does anyone know anything about a gpd unit in a beeper shell?
If it leaves bread crumbs then I’m screwed, if not I’m safe.

Is it illegal for somebody to put a GPS locator on your car without permission?
♥Xty♥ asked:
A tracking device? A person who is not in law enforcement? I was told today by somebody that they have put one on my vehicle and I was wondering if I should call the police on him. He used to be a police officer a long time ago but not anymore. It’s kind of freaking me out.

Are there any real-but-cheap tracking devices like in “No Country for Old Men?”?
Neo G asked:
So I’m watching that Coen Brother’s movie, “No Country for Old Men” with a friend of mine, and a big plot device is a tracking device (transmitter and receiver) that a character uses throughout part of the film. I remember back in the day in the Spiderman comics when Spidey would toss a “spideytracker” (or whatever) on a fleeing bad guy to catch up with him later.
But then I remembered Science 101 class when I was told that the only radio transmitter/receiver combos that were small and cheap enough to use as a little walkie-talkie tracking device required direct pointing and/or line-of-site. Today’s GPS devices admittedly work around that, but that doesn’t explain the anachronism of this magical 1980s tiny cell-phone sized transmitter/receiver that worked through entire buildings, off of highways, moving, etc., etc….
The question: do items like this really exist? Or was this just fiction? Or was it a device that really costs $10,000 or whatever…?

which new cingular (at&t) phones don’t use a gps navigator to track down where you are at from online?
DaniRae asked:
I am getting a new phone, but under my parents plan. I overheard my dad talking and he wants me to pick a certain one because he wants to see where I am at with a GPS device that can track me down. I am buying my own phone, so i won’t know which is which. Well, I am a good girl, I always am at where I say I am at, but its just kind of creepy that he can do that and I hate how he doesn’t trust me that I am where I say I am. Anyways, how would I find that information out? I couldn’t find it on the website. Any help would be great, thanks!
P.S. Don’t say to just go with, because “I have nothing to hide.” Its just the principal of the thing. I mean honestly, that’s just weird. Especially when I go off to college next fall!

tracking device for bicycle?
kittysaysmeow asked:
I am planning on purchasing a motorized bicycle (not a moped or scooter, a regular bike with a little engine attached, one of these: http://www.motoredbikes.com/gallery/my/index.jpg
The problem is that I live in a very high bike theft area and I am really worried about it getting stolen, esspecially with the fancy engine and all. I have already lost two bikes worth nowhere near as much as this one will be.
The best idea I’ve heard so far is to buy one of those disposable cell phones with GPS and hide it somewhere on the bike so if it’s stolen I can track it on the internet.
Any ideas for how I could securely hide the phone without the theif finding it right away?
Where can I get this kind of phone for cheap, prefferably pay as you go since I won’t be using it as an actual phone.
Also, any other ideas for some sort of low cost tracking device I can use?
Other ideas besides tracking? (I do plan on using two kryptonite locks)
Also, locking it up in safe places is not always possible. Sometimes I need to leave it overnight. The two U-locks will help, but I need something eles just in case!

I believe that I have a GPS tracking device on my vehicle also. How can I get this stopped and get rid of the tracking device?

Vehicle tracking system or wireless CCTV?
Hengky W asked:
Hi, I’m looking for a device that can track my fleet. I”m suspecting my driver of some wrongdoing like carrying other people’s goods without permission.
I’m living in Indonesia, so I don’t think normal GPS tracking device will work here since Google earth and other mapping system do not have a complete map of the area. But I’m willing to listen to any suggestion.
Or maybe there is a spycam or security camera that I can monitor from the internet. Since I’m delivering goods to other states (over 100-200km) away, is there any wireless security camera that can work that far?
I’ll listen to any suggestions. Thanks

GPS/mobile tracking for kids (UK)?
toothlesscrone asked:
Hi. Im about to move house and my boys will have a new area to check out. They have cheap mobile phones, but most of the time they seem to busy playing rugby or footie to even hear it ring.
As this will be a new area, I will be looking for some sort of tracking device, that is cheap and accurate. I did try Child Locate and it was rubbish because it gave me an area of a mile to look in, which is was too big.
My boys are 9 and 10, and will go off exploring which is fine, but as boys will be boys, they will and try and push their boundaries. Can any of you tell me which tracking device is any good?
Thanks.

in two months when i do leave for college, which i might add i am paying for myself, since my parents aren’t giving me a dime, i will be living completely on my own. i also have had two jobs since the age of fourteen…i do come home at a reasonable time…11 pm…and i do give him one check in call a night…but if i do move out and get my own cell phone plan and live at my bosses for the summer he can’t continue to harass me or track me with a gps device?
and the only thing my father is doing to support me is let me drive the car…i pay the phone bill, and my insurcance, the gas, my college education, he no longer buys food for the house, i buy all my own clothing, and i’m not some idiot teenager i know how hard it is making it on your own in the real world…there are so many things you need to account for when you budget your lifestyle.
